We’ve been having so many great conversations on ShinyArt here in the SF Bay Area but we are really feeling the pull to bring ShinyArt to the Big Apple. So we’ve set aside some budget and are now looking for a contractor based in NYC who is as passionate about video art as we are.

Job Description

Sales Associate, ShinyArt

New York City

 ShinyArt (www.shinyart.com) is an exciting new online service that rents and streams contemporary video art to private, public and commercial spaces (think of it as the Netflix of video art). With the ubiquity of HDTVs in social and hospitality spaces, ShinyArt is ideally positioned to help high-end hotel, restaurant, and club owners turn these screens into canvases for contemporary art to enhance the overall design aesthetic of their space.

ShinyArt represents over 20 video artists and has achieved some success in renting contemporary video art to high-end clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Based on this success, the company is expanding to New York City.

The ideal applicant will be passionate about video art and the potential it has to animate the many screens we interact with in our daily lives. The Sales Associate should have contacts with the hotel/restaurant/club owners in New York and is excited by the prospect of introducing them to contemporary video art.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a new type of online art gallery, and help contemporary video art break out of the traditional gallery setting and introduce it to a wider audience.

Responsibilities

The Sales Associate’s responsibilities include, but are not limited, to

• Developing sales campaigns in New York City and introducing ShinyArt to prospective customers

• Developing and managing ongoing customer relationships on behalf of ShinyArt

• Meeting with local video artists, and encouraging them to sign up with ShinyArt

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

• An undergraduate degree in art, art history, design, architecture or related field

• A working knowledge of video art

• Familiarity with video production technologies

• Art sales experience

• Existing contacts among potential video art customers

Terms and compensation

• Three month contract position with the option to renew

• Base salary commensurate with experience plus commission

App attack!

The ShinyArt iPad app is firing up and  – sneak peak(!) – our first featured “exhibition” will serve up some of the most surreal, mind-stretching, and even cringe-inducing work that our artists can come up with.

Not only will the app feature the video art, but they will be accompanied by anecdotes about the making of the artworks, their conceptual frameworks, and even some technical notes for other aspiring video artists and general tech geeks….

In related news, new ShinyArt artists are jumping on board almost daily! Don’t miss work by NY-based John Criscitello,  LA artist Jon 9, who specializes in autostereoscopic art (if you don’t know what this is, all the most reason to educate yourself and look it up)….as well as two  as-yet-announced artists who I expect to have added to the roster within the next few days. Look out for syrupy drips across your screen and Tokyo dreams.

Get your summer groove on. Add Manhattan Canyon and Totem 66 to your next event, insert something chilly to drink, some stimulating conversation, then sit back and enjoy.

Catching up

With the Twittering, the FB-ing, the finding clients, and the finding artists gig, I am sorry to say that this little blog has been suffering of late and is in desperate need of an update!

First: a huge shout out to ShinyArt artists who have just joined the team or who have posted new work in the last month. I’m talking about new funky-urban work by New York-based Greg King ; a trance-y lullaby by Ina Conradi; and kitchy erotica from Nara Denning. Watch for new work to be posted soon by Charlotte Cornaton and Greta Schoenberg, and check out our newby artists Jon Montenegro and Jordan Wright. Thanks everyone for supporting our vision!!

Second: Artweek LA ran a loverly little story on ShinyArt today with large embedded videos by Nara Denning and Ina Conradi - congrats to both artists! Am hoping for another article to come out soon in a global publication…..fingers crossed that it survives the editor’s chopping block!

Great things came out of our “debutante’s ball” at the Silicon Valley TechCocktail Mixer a couple of weeks ago. Chiefly among them is a potential new client with the capacity to use ShinyArt on over one hundred screens! Will keep you posted…..

Checks being sent to artists, angel funding on the horizon, apps in development and interested clients – we’re moving full steam ahead!

We’ve already sold to some marquee clients and are now looking to expand our reach. We are currently seeking a part-time marketing professional who can help raise our profile in the art, interior design and architecture communities.

Responsibilities will include: helping to manage our social presence (blog, Twitter); introducing ShinyArt to relevant writers, bloggers and publications; helping to develop other strategies to communicate to our target market.

Up and Running again!

And we’re up and running again. Thanks Amazon and Mobovivo!

While you are revisiting the website, be sure to peruse some new artwork from Paris-based artist Charlotte Cornaton. It’s a funky short work called Aaron with her signature stop motion effects and melding of animation and analog film.

And if you are in the mood for some urban jungle, Gregory King also recently added Manhattan Canyon and Approach to the ShinyArt lineup. Described as “film poems,” both works play with mirror images, abstract cityscapes, and rhythmic movements to conjure up metropolitan experiences from the air and from the ground.

Problems with www.ShinyArt.com?

If you are experiencing problems with the website right now, I have two things to say:

1. Not our fault – we use Amazon servers and they seem to be going haywire at the moment….

2. As they are Amazon servers, we are pretty sure that someone, somewhere is working pretty hard to fix them. Therefore, this is temporary!

3. Please be patient – we appreciate your interest and your video art enthusiasm!!!
