Huge memories in tiny video packages

I just got word of this charming and provocative art project by Brooklyn video artist Andrea Wolf. Www.memoryframes.org/andreawolf

In memory frames, Andrea works with found home footage (delightfully textured with grainy silhouettes) that she projects onto tiny, sometimes fragile, objects. The effect is to capture the act of memory making and memory conjuring. As a vessel of memories, the tiny object surrogates the souvenir – a dusty trinket on a shelf that holds onto the past, waiting to be activated by our rediscovery.

Beautiful, thoughtful work.

ShinyArt is in the middle of working out technical details for a local boutique hotel – can’t wait to see our artwork in that space!

Introducing Ina Conradi!

Make way for Ina Conradi – the latest ShinyArt contributing artist!

Singapore may not technically be on the other side of the world, but sometimes it sure seems like it from our insulated Bay Area bubble. I have been trying to open ShinyArt up for some time to Asia-based artists, but the process has been tough going, so I am thrilled that Ina Conradi has burst our bubble and become our most recent contributing artist. Welcome to the team Ina! We hope there will be lots more artwork to come.

In Ina’s distinguished career as a painter and sculptor she merges polysensory hybrid painting methodologies [I must admit, I don't have a clue as to what a polysensory hybrid methodology is, but I am intrigued! How can they be both "poly" and "hybrid"??? Maybe Ina can clear this up for me :) ], avant-garde filmmaking and sound cultures, into immersive 3D animated public installations. Her recent research involves experiential 3D stereo animated pictorials spaces and new emotive based digital animation experiences.

Ina’s artwork has been exhibited in Europe, USA, Japan and Singapore; she is a member of the Slovenian Fine Art Arts Association, Singapore-China Association for Advancement of Science and Technology, (SCAAST), and has been a Japan Foundation Fellow since 1991.

Are we lucky, or what?

It’s money, honey!

We just wanted to send out a little ShinyArt “hooray” as yesterday marked kind of a watershed for us. We were able to send out the first artist checks – proving that the model works and making us hungrier to send out more!

And more is on the horizon. Look for the announcement of a new client partner coming soon…..whoop whoop!

ShinyArt artist, Faisal Anwar @ArtDubai

We are singing the praises of yet another successful ShinyArt artist!

Faisal Anwar is gearing up to present a series of sound collages at the prestigious ArtDubai fair between March 15-19th. “Displayed” via listening posts around the fair, Faisal’s artwork will also be serialised on Art International Radio (artonair.org ) and local Dubai station Dubai Eye that week. They will subsequently be archived and publicly accessible on-line at The Island’s website.  For more information http://www.artdubai.ae/Details.php?ref=YHGipHSlkpGZY2I (click radio)

As you know, ShinyArt features not only superb video art but also innovative sound work as well that accompanies – and often can stand apart from – the video work.

We are thrilled that Faisal is getting some valuable recognition for his truly provocative work. ShinyArt will always have a soft spot for Faisal because hey – he was our FIRST artist and the first to take a chance on a wild idea by also creating the first iteration of our website. When it comes to taking creative risks  – he’s our guy.

Here is more on the sound collage project at ArtDubai. Congrats from the SA team, Faisal!!!

ShinyArt announces new customers: District 30, Dive Bar in Sacramento; Slide Bar in San Francisco

District 30: Hopscotch by Greta Schoenberg pt I

ShinyArt, the leading provider of online video art rental, today announced that its artwork will be on display at District 30 and Dive Bar in Sacramento, Calif., and Slide Bar in San Francisco, Calif.

District 30 is the premier nightclub and special event venue in downtown Sacramento. It is housed in hundred-year-old  building that was completely restored with all the high tech accoutrement.

In direct contrast to its name, Dive Bar is a haven of cool and class. A unique aspect of Dive Bar (in addition to the video art) is a huge tank above the bar that is home to real-live mermaids and mermen.

Old world San Francisco elegance is reborn in Slide Bar, which takes its cue from an era of secret codes and handshakes when the speakeasy was a hidden subculture of nightlife.

All three of these locations will be featuring a rotating collection of video art from ShinyArt that has been specially curated by ShinyArt CEO Kristy Phillips.

Works currently on display include:

District 30, Dive Bar and Slide Bar are owned by Inner Circle Entertainment

Supporting quotes:

George Karpaty, President, Inner Circle Entertainment: “With District 30 , Dive Bar and Slide Bar, we are creating a whole new night life experience. ShinyArt’s video art is completely unique and innovative, helping us to push the boundaries of design and to offer customers a glimpse of cutting edge contemporary art. ”

Kristy Phillips, PhD; CEO/Founder, ShinyArt: “District 30 , Dive Bar and Slide Bar are among the most exciting and innovative nightspots in the world. Each location provides a unique theme-based experience for its discerning customers. By combining art, design and technology, ShinyArt is able to play a part in enhancing the customer experience.”

ShinyArt launches online video art rental service

ShinyArt transforms the ubiquitous flatscreen into a canvas for modern art

ShinyArt today unveiled its new service to rent video art online to consumer and businesses worldwide.

With the popularity of services such as Netflix and Hulu, as well as devices as AppleTV and Roku, online video is increasingly becoming part of mainstream media consumption.

ShinyArt takes this trend one step further and applies it to video art. Video art is moving image art that is created by video artists specifically to be shown on video displays.

Because of its technical requirements, video art has not been able to gain the popular appeal of other visual art forms such as painting or sculpture.  But with the proliferation of flatscreens in corporate, public and private spaces, ShinyArt plans to use its video art distribution platform to bring video art to mainstream consumers and businesses worldwide.

Uses cases for video art include:

  • Create a cutting-edge aesthetic in bars, restaurants, hotels and clubs
  • Improve the design in corporate spaces and lobbies
  • Draw consumer attention to video ad screens
  • Create a unique look to a staged room or property
  • Provide a centerpiece to an event or party
  • Enhance a room by transforming a large blank screen into a work of art

As part of its launch, ShinyArt is offering video art rental starting at $.99/day. ShinyArt also offers unparallel flexibility as artwork can be rotated on and off screens as often as the customer wants.

Currently ShinyArt hosts work by a group of artists from North America, Europe and South America and is adding new works every day. The video artwork ranges from abstract images to short film to digital images to video dance.

The ShinyArt video art platform is built and hosted by Mobovivo, a leading provider of online video distribution systems.

Supporting Quote:

Kristy Phillips, PhD; CEO/Founder, ShinyArt: “Flatscreens are increasingly part of our every-day experience; they are at home, in offices, in social areas and in public spaces. This creates an enormous opportunity to bring the elegance and thought-provoking nature of video art out from traditional installations and into the space of the greater public.”
